The International Association of Entertainment Lawyers - the IAEL - was officially founded in 1977 at MIDEM, the main international trade fair of the music business held each January in Cannes, France (although its original membership had been meeting informally before then).
Over the past thirty years, the IAEL has come to fulfil a unique role for lawyers throughout the world involved in the entertainment industry. It aims to provide a specialist, international forum for the sharing of knowledge and experience of legal and commercial issues of interest and concern to its members. In recent years it has expanded both the size of its members and the scope of its activities. Nonetheless, continuity of membership combined with the energy of its officers, past and present, mean that the IAEL's style remains distinctly personal and informal.
