IAEL @ South by Southwest 2010

The IAEL had its first presence at the South by Southwest Conference on March 17-21, 2010.  This is a major industry event in Austin, Texas, with over 11,000 participants.

Steve Masur moderated a panel “Three Strikes and You’re Out: The ISP Debate” focusing on the issues raised in this year’s IAEL book which Steve edited, “Collective Licensing at the ISP Level.”  IAEL members Dina LaPolt and Susan Abramovitch served on the panel, along with Chris Castle and Ron Berry, and Jeff Liebenson introduced the event.

Jeff also moderated another panel discussion “Chasing Technology: The Law and Digital Distribution” which addressed the pace of change in law and technology, and its effect on legal developments in the field.  Jeff was joined on the panel by Cecily Mak of Real Networks/Rhapsody and David Ring of Universal Music Group.  Cecily was a contributor to the IAEL’s 2008 annual book “User-Generated Content: New Business Models and Legal Issues.”
